What is FR4 PCB?
FR-4 is the most commonly used name in the printed circuit board industry. People inside and outside the industry who have a preliminary understanding of FR-4 believe that it is a printed circuit board material. There is no problem with the above statement, but in fact, FR-4 is more accurately a code used in PCB materials, mainly referring to the heat resistance level of the product. Therefore, the complete meaning of FR-4 is the material specification of the resin material that can self-extinguish when burned. It is a material grade, not a name. Types of FR4 Materials and Parameters
The name FR-4 with glass fiber epoxy copper-clad laminate is too complicated. We usually call it FR-4 copper-clad laminate or CCL. FR-4 type copper clad plate has excellent classification characteristics, and the quality is from high to low. According to different products, different grades of FR-4 type copper clad plate are selected. FR4 Performance advantages
Due to its wide range of applications, FR-4 has covered most electronic products well and its advantages are well known. For example, we know that FR-4 has good insulation, good heat resistance, and is not afraid of moisture. In addition to the excellent machining properties mentioned many times, FR-4 also has many advantages and characteristics in the processing process. Therefore, FR4 PCBS are widely used in many industrial fields. From a mechanical point of view, its scalability is very good. Whether it is in a high temperature and low temperature environment, or in an environment with different humidity, it can withstand various external forces. It can maintain good stability regardless of bending, stretching or impact. The loss coefficient is also very low, with a DF value of about 0.0024.
FR-4 is very adaptable. Whether it is a solid with a relatively low viscosity or a high melting point, FR-4 can be well adapted to meet the needs of the product. The curing temperature range is wide, from 0℃ to 180℃. FR-4 can be fixed at the required temperature of the product. The fixed temperature is very flexible and greatly facilitates manufacturing. The melting point of the platen is 203°. Therefore, the FR-4 printed circuit board can be used in high temperature applications such as power modules.
Shortening is very low. According to Ulectronics's production experience, it is usually less than 3% when curing, because there are no volatile substances during processing. Due to the presence of strong hydroxyl and ether bonds in the FR-4 material, it has good adhesion. In addition, due to the small intermolecular internal stress, the adhesion is further strengthened.
Good heat resistance. The heat resistance can reach more than 150°, so the product has a wide coverage and can be used in electronic products of all walks of life. The dielectric constant is very stable, about 2.34.
