What is the manufacturing process of rigid flexible PCB?
There are many technical benefits to using HDI boards. Therefore, you can use these advantages in HDI PCB board design.
1. Preparation of base material The first step in the manufacturing process of a rigid pcb is to prepare/clean the laminate. The laminate contains a copper layer (with adhesive coating) that must be thoroughly cleaned before proceeding to the next step. Pre-cleaning is performed to remove the antirust layer used by the supplier to coat the copper rings to prevent oxidation. To remove the coating, perform the following steps. Immerse the copper coil in a concentrated acid solution.
2. Treat microetched copper coils with sodium persulfate. The copper coil is then coated with a suitable oxidizing agent to provide adhesion and oxidation protection.
3. Generate circuit diagram After preparing the base material, the next step is to generate the circuit pattern. This is achieved through the use of two main techniques. Screen printing: This is the most popular technique. It produces the desired pattern directly on the surface of the laminate. The total thickness is 4 to 50 microns. Photographic imaging: This is the oldest technique and is commonly used to depict circuit alignment on laminates. The pattern is transferred from the photomask to the laminate using a dry photoresist film and ultraviolet light
4. Etching circuit pattern After producing the desired pattern, the copper laminate is carefully etched next. The process can be done by dipping the laminate into an etching solution or exposing it to an etching agent spray. For perfect results, both sides of the laminate must be etched at the same time.
5. Drilling High-speed tools with 100% accuracy can be used to create a large number of through holes, pads and through holes. Laser drilling technology is used for very small holes.
6. Plated through-hole This is one of the key steps in the manufacturing process of rigid flexible PCBS and is essential for precise and careful execution. After drilling holes to the required specifications, copper is deposited and electroplated. This is done to form a layer-to-layer electrical interconnection
7. Application of overlays Cladding is used to protect the top and bottom of rigid flexible printed circuit boards. Its main purpose is to provide complete protection for the circuit board from harsh physical and chemical conditions. Usually a polyimide film is used and imprinted on the surface using screen printing technology. 8. Cutting flexible pcb Carefully cut a single sheet of flexible sheet. For mass production of rigid flexible plates, hydraulic punching should be used, and in small batch production, special knives are used.
9. Electrical testing and verification Testing and verification is the final step in the manufacturing process. Assessing the integrity of a rigid flexible printed circuit board is an important part of the process, as even the slightest defect can seriously affect the functionality, performance, and durability of the final rigid flexible printed circuit board.
