What is Heavy Copper PCB?
Regarding the definition of heavy copper PCB, I believe that many people can blurt out: "As the name suggests, heavy copper PCB is a PCB thicker than ordinary PCB copper, right?" Of course, you're right. In normal products, the thickness of copper is about 0.5 to 2 ounces, or 17.5 to 70um. Therefore, when the finished thickness of the copper foil on the copper layer is more than 2 ounces (70um), we call it a heavy copper PCB, also known as a copper PCB.

The advantages of heavy copper PCB
1. Withstand higher currents and higher voltages It can be imagined that the copper thickness of the heavy copper PCB is larger, so it can be seen that it can withstand greater current and higher voltage. For example, some power PCBS for high-currency devices or electronic trucks need to run huge amounts of currency, and copper traces can burn out at normal thickness, so the use of heavy copper in the pcb is a must. Especially for power modules in trucks or industrial equipment, 10oz or more of copper may be required.
2. High reliability The copper used in ordinary PCBS is about 0.5oz to 1oz thick (also 17.5um to 35um), which is still very thin. Heavy copper is always thicker than 20z (70um), with higher current carrying capacity and better heat resistance. In addition, the mechanical strength of copper wire and PTH holes is stronger. Therefore, for some products with very high reliability requirements, such as electronic modules used in vehicles and medical requirements, heavy copper should be used. Avoid failure of copper connection in special use environment.t
3. More heat, cold, corrosion resistance In addition, heavy copper PCBS are more heat resistant, more cold resistant, and more corrosion resistant than traditional PCBS, so it can be applied to high-end industrial, military, and aerospace grades beyond the industrial grade, and can be used in extremely high humidity or hot and cold environments.

Design guidelines for heavy copper PCB
The minimum line width of heavy copper PCB should not be less than 0.3mm. In general, the minimum distance between adjacent wires used in heavy copper PCBS should not be less than 0.25mm.
The copper foil around the fixed hole used in the heavy copper circuit is not less than 0.4mm from the edge of the hole; There should be no thin line 1.5mm from the edge of the hole.
Whether to consider low-density routing design.
Under normal circumstances, the distance between the wire and the edge of the printed circuit board is not less than 3mm, and in special cases it is not less than 1.5mm, but the width of the wire must be not less than 1.5mm. The ground cable must not be smaller than 0.5mm.
The pad cannot be attached to the pad. In addition, do not connect the pad to the exposed copper foil.
